Inspired by The Withdrawal of Tradition Past a Surpassing Disaster by Jalal Toufic, this work is our attempt to achieve resurrection when discerning the withdrawal of tradition past a surpassing disaster. We aim to reconstruct people’s recognition towards tradition in this era.
Behind stories
We choose Sun Bizhen this story from a traditional Chinese book Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio as our based. We create an immerse space to allow audience walk into a scenery to experience this story in a space where reality and illusion blends with each other. Audience in this piece are no longer one-way receiver, they now become the key to unfold the story. By using distance sensors, audience are able to interact with the piece unconsciously. In this piece, we are not simply trying to adapt a story to another medium with its own specific parameters or to another historical period, but to resurrect it. And the audiences are the judges as to whether the resurrection succeeded or not.
